Have you seen our new kitchen textiles? Lulu is doing her best to distract you (it’s a wonder we managed to get any photography done ourselves!) but we have a gorgeous new range of tea towels, oven gloves and gauntlets to bring some Clarissa Hulse flair into the kitchen.
The collection features old and new botanical designs, with linear seed heads, scattered alliums, the Chinese rue and swaying ferns bringing a little of the outside into the kitchen. Available in three distinct colourways, it’s easy to combine crisp, thick cotton tea towels with a double oven glove or a pair of gauntlets to create a coordinating set. We think they’d make the perfect gift for any cook or garden lover you know so keep an eye out for promotions in the coming weeks in time for Christmas!

How gorgeous is the new Meadow Grass bed linen? Featuring three layers of grasses in rich turmeric and hot pink swaying on a dramatic charcoal ombré background, it really is a new favourite in the studio.
The design derives from the three different grass species below. The stems were collected on a country walk and brought back to London to be photographed against a white wall in the studio. This makes it easy for the images to be transferred to computer software that can layer and manipulate each part until the design begins to take shape.
The design process involved experimenting with different mediums and techniques. Clarissa loves using watercolour paints to create ombré backdrops, giving the feel of silhouettes at sunset.
A spindly reeds design is featured both on the reverse of the duvet cover and traversing the housewife pillowcases, adding an extra dimension to the bed linen. Finish the look in your bedroom with a chunky charcoal knit throw and embroidered cotton cushion, and if you want to go all out, check out our new Meadow Grass wallpaper, part of the just-launched Callista collection!

We are really excited to launch our spring/summer ’16 collection and thought it might be nice to show how some of the bed linen designs came about. The Watercolour Patchwork and Clover Stripe designs were both created using the medium of watercolour paint on paper. The result? Gorgeous merged shades and incidental ombré effects that really reflect the inspiration behind this collection: the rolling Wiltshire landscape and the scorching Greek horizon.
The Design Process: Paint, Print, Patch
At the inception of both designs were bold watercolour stripes, hand-painted onto paper in beautifully contrasting acid, neon and moody deep-hued dyes.
Clarissa pressed Greek Muscari flowers, wild English grasses and Hydrangea flowers on her travels to Wiltshire and Greece. Exposed onto a light box, beautiful silhouettes emerged.
Once the silhouettes on the light box had been photographed, the images were transferred onto screens and hand-printed over the watercolour paper.
The Clover Stripe remained in the original broad swathes of turquoise, kingfisher and chartreuse, while the multi-coloured Watercolour Patchwork was cut into pieces that were carefully patched together by hand.
The resulting designs were then digitally-printed onto 200 thread count cotton sateen for a lustrious finish.

We are delighted to launch our new kitchen textile collection. The new range of tea towels and aprons feature a mix of fresh designs and favourites from the archive, printed onto crisp white cotton in bold, graphic colours.
The photos below show flashes of inspiration from the very beginning of a design’s evolution from plant to product. Clarissa’s creative journey can begin anywhere- from vines creeping between the mortar of London’s terraced streets to ferns and flora discovered on foreign expeditions with her family, she obsessively photographs it all.
The Seed Heads design is actually a carefully assembled collection of lots of different plant species. Dried poppies from Greece lie beside Scottish ferns and Wiltshire meadow flowers in this romantic collection of seed heads that create a map of Clarissa’s travels.
These pom-pom like stems are the inspiration for the Allium design. Clarissa photographed this collection of Purple Sensation in a friend’s garden in Wiltshire on a much-needed break from the city. The resulting tea towel captures the playful nature of the bloom in a utilitarian gunmetal shade. We think the Allium apron in ocean would make a fabulous gift.
Clarissa came upon this fern while travelling in the Caribbean. The effect of the light shining through the fronds of the foliage has been transposed onto this tea towel in the striking contrast between turquoise and brilliant white.
